Frequently Asked Questions
What is Coaching?

Coaching is distinct from psychotherapy. It focuses on the present and in creating a desired future. Psychotherapy tends to focus on the past and on “fixing the problem.” When you enter the coaching alliance, you are seen as a whole, competent individual whose strengths serve as a foundation for continued growth.  Coaching assumes you are the expert on you and helps you to live authentically – remaining true to your values while pursuing what matters most to you. It provides challenges in a supportive environment and encourages you along your journey.

How Does Life Coaching Work?

Coaching works best when you and your coach become a team. Your coach will help you to:

  • Gain clarity on what you want – to discover your true passions
  • Design a plan to best meet your goals and needs
  • Identify and overcome obstacles
  • Achieve your goals and celebrate your accomplishments
  • Feel supported along your path to success

Through a process of inquiry, reflection, goal-setting and challenges, clients reach new heights, both professionally and personally. Life coaching can be conducted in-person, over the phone or via Skype. Typically, you would meet with your coach two to three times per month. Homework is generally given between sessions to keep you moving toward your goals. Phone and email support between sessions are offered as part of the service.

How Long Will I Need Coaching Services?

Clients typically make a three-month contract with their coach in order to get the process moving. Most clients see their coach two to three times per month. Coaching often goes beyond the initial three-month period – its duration is determined on an individual basis.

Who is Appropriate for Coaching?

Anyone who is motivated to make life changes is an ideal candidate for coaching. This includes professionals, adults, young adults and couples. Many clients describe feeling “stuck” and wanting to move forward to a new chapter in their lives. Coaching is particularly well-suited for people:

  • in transition (such as empty-nesters who want to make a difference in the lives of others)
  • wanting a more fulfilling work life
  • wanting to become healthier (e.g. losing weight, developing an exercise routine)
  • wanting to feel happier and more satisfied with life
  • looking for balance in a stressful environment
  • wanting help in discovering their passions, and in defining their mission in life
  • wanting to improve their relationships – whether it is their partner, family member, workmate or friends
  • wanting to lead a purposeful life
